Help attendees find every place on your floor plan
Find a place lets attendees search every level for exhibitors, restrooms, rooms and entrances, with keyboard, screen reader and step-free directions support.
Your published floor plan comes with Find a place, a searchable list of every place on every level of your show: exhibitors, booths, restrooms, entrances, elevators, rooms and anything else you named on the map. It works with a keyboard and with screen readers, so attendees who can't use the visual map can still find every location and get directions to it.
Find a place appears on your Homebase floor plan, on the floor plan embed on your own website, and on the app's Maps screen. On wide screens it sits beside the map. On phones, select Find a place above the map to open it, and Hide places to close it.
What attendees can find
Search covers every published level at once, so attendees don't need to know which floor a place is on.
| On your map | Found as |
|---|---|
| Exhibitors with a booth | The exhibitor's name, or any of their booth numbers |
| Booths with no exhibitor | The booth number, or the booth's title |
| Icons, such as restrooms, entrances, first aid and parking | The icon's name, or the name you typed for it. Words like "bathroom" or "toilet" work too |
| Areas and shapes you named | The name you gave them, such as Ballroom A or Meeting Room 201 |
| Text you added with the Text tool | The text, such as Food Court |
| Stairs, elevators and escalators drawn as path connectors | The connector's label, or its type |
Results are grouped under Exhibitors, Restrooms, Rooms and areas, Entrances and exits, Elevators, stairs and ramps, Services and amenities and Booths. With nothing typed, the list shows your exhibitors, as the floor plan sidebar always has. Search still covers every place. To list them all without searching, select Browse all places, and Show exhibitors only to go back. A show with no exhibitors lists every place from the start.
Each result says where the place is: its level when your show has more than one, the named area it's inside, and the nearest booth. For example, "Level 2, in Ballroom A, near booth 412". Places that read the same are numbered, such as "Restrooms (1 of 3)".
Icons with Accessible turned on, and elevators, are marked Wheelchair accessible. Typing "accessible", "wheelchair" or "step-free" with a search, such as "accessible restroom", lists only those places. Areas marked restricted are listed with Restricted access.
Attendees on the Spanish version of your page search in Spanish, for example "aseos" or "ascensor".
Meeting rooms from your agenda
When your Homebase shows your Sessions page, the rooms you typed on your sessions are searchable too. A room whose name matches a place you named on the map, such as an area called Meeting Room 201, is that place: its details list Sessions here with each session's day and time. Capitals, spaces and punctuation don't matter, but the words must match.
A room with no matching place on the map is still listed, marked "On the agenda, not marked on the map", with its sessions, so attendees know it exists. To show it on the map, name an area or place a text label with the same name.
What isn't searchable
- Areas and shapes you didn't name
- Tables
- Images and logos you placed on the map
- Words that are part of your uploaded floor plan image. If your image shows "Restrooms" or "Stage", attendees can see it but can't search for it. Place an icon or a text label there too.
Picking a place
When an attendee selects a result, the map switches to that place's level, zooms to it and circles it. The list shows the place's details with these options:
- Show on map frames the place again after the attendee has moved the map
- Directions, when walking directions are available
- View exhibitor profile, for an exhibitor
- Back to results returns to the list
An exhibitor with several booths lists each one, with its level, so attendees can pick which to show.
Directions to any place
When Attendee Wayfinding is on for your show and walking paths are drawn, attendees can get directions to any place, not only booths. They choose where they're starting from by searching the same list, so "Main entrance" works as a start. Directions are given as text steps, such as "Take the elevator to Level 2", as well as a line on the map.
Step-free route (elevators only) keeps the route off stairs and escalators. If no step-free route exists, attendees are told so. Directions aren't offered to restricted areas.
To turn wayfinding on, see Configuration. To draw walking paths and connectors, see Draw your floor plan.
Make every place findable
Attendees can only find what your map names. Before you publish:
Name your rooms
Draw an area over each meeting room, hall and lounge, and give it a name. Area names aren't drawn on the map, so they don't clutter it.
Match your agenda
Use the same room names on the map as on your sessions, so each session's room can be shown.
Mark facilities with icons
Place an icon for every restroom, entrance, exit, first aid point and information desk. Turn on Accessible for the ones that are.
Label your connectors
Give stairs and elevators names attendees will recognize, such as South elevator.
Check before you publish
Before you publish lists the areas with no name. Open your published floor plan and select Browse all places in Find a place to see every place an attendee can find.
